I burnt the duck!

What a great week I have had, Friday was a training free day so I managed get through quite a few tasks that had been gathering dust on my TO-DO list.

I had been looking forward to the weekend as I actually had both Saturday and Sunday night off, That was until work phoned and asked if I could work the Saturday night ๐Ÿ˜ฆ The extra money helps but when you get so close to the days off it was still a bit disappointing.

I had my weekend pretty much planned, Saturday I was finally going to get my car fixed – the catalytic converter was at the end of it’s useful life and I had bought the new parts a few weeks beforehand, Well that had to be moved to Sunday.

Sunday my wife and I had planned to go to a tent and camping equipment exhibition. We had never been to one of these before but it looked really interesting, Of course we had to cancel this to get the car done ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So Sunday morning I finished work, Shot home for a couple of hours sleep before heading off to my dads house to get my car done. I actually really enjoyed myself, Under my Dads expert supervision we both got the part replaced and my car works lovely now, Next on the list is to fix the electric windows but that can wait for another week (yes I have the parts already).

Only problem was with the lack of sleep and the hot weather by the time I got home I was so knackered that I did not have the energy to cook, I bought everyone pizza which I also ate with a chilled can of beer, Yep no long run Sunday for me!!

Tuesdays run was great, 30 Minute steady run. I got less than 5 minutes down the road when my running app started telling me I had completed my first mile??? I wish, a mile in 4 minute 44 – That would definably be a record – Try 8 minutes. This did make me laugh as I ran, I always wear my Garmin watch which is what I go by.

Wednesday I had a 8 mile recovery run so I took Tigger with me, He actually ran all the way which surprised me as he usually gets outside the house and refuses to move, After the first 3 miles I took him to the park so I could let him off his lead, 3 laps round the park and he stayed by my side the whole time, Well done to Tigger ๐Ÿ™‚

Well back to the title, I did burn the duck. My wife had bought a half piece of aromatic duck for herself and my last remaining meat eating daughter to share. I had made a large batch of Chilli-con-carne with rice for myself which was put in tubs and froze. The box said to cook the duck for 30 to 35 minutes, I timed it perfect with my dinner, the timer went off at 30 minutes so it left a couple of minutes to get the sauce and extras ready. When I opened the oven door I was gobsmacked – the duck was not just burned it was black! If it was any other meat I think it would of been binned but being duck and the fact my wife and daughter was starving they still wanted it! To my surprise only the skin was black, the meat underneath was cooked lovely, I tasted a bit and it was really nice. What’s the saying – don’t judge a book by its cover? Does the same apply to food? lol

Well I have to get back to work now so have a good night all ๐Ÿ™‚

A run in the sun

Thursday 30th May 2019

Wow, yesterday rain, today sun, I love the weather here lol

My poor wife is working a night shift tonight, The poor woman finished today’s shift at 14:00 then straight home for dinner, small sleep then back to work for 20:00, I have to admire her drive – Not sure I would want to do that now days.

I will be relieved to pick her up in the morning, I have a feeling that she will be knackered.

It was so nice today 21ยบ outside so my rain-jacket goes back away and out comes my sunglasses, Beautiful.

I love running but I also LOVE my train-free days, Friday is one of these, time to catch up on things at home and relax before work ๐Ÿ™‚

All in all it was a very good run, Not the fastest (I blame the lovely warm weather) but plenty of effort ๐Ÿ™‚

Today’s I included a 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool down.

Happy Anniversary

Today is my wedding anniversary, 22 wonderful years, what a fantastic day we both had.

My day was brilliant, I woke up at 1pm as usual. After having breakfast and coffee I loaded the car for a trip down the recycling centre, there was loads of parking for a change so no hanging around which was great. After leaving the recycling centre I had to stop off to buy fresh mint and rosemary for our anniversary dinner.

By the time I got home and put dinner on it was nearly 4pm which was later than I wanted but at least it will be done before 6. What a lovely meal it was, a tasty lamb roast with the usual trimmings.

My daughters were not in for dinner so it was just my wife, my son and I eating which made for a very quiet meal ๐Ÿ™‚

My wife and I got to spend a lovely hour together after dinner before I had to head off to work.

I first met my wife 30 years ago and she has always been so wonderful and loving, I am a very lucky man.

40 Minute tempo run

Todays run was a 40 minute tempo run. I always look forward to my tempo runs as I get to push myself. I could not run as fast on the second half of the run but still put in good effort – 4.83 Miles, 8:17 Average pace.

I started off with a 4 Minute jog, then 15 Minute run, another 3 Minute jog, followed by a 15 Minute run and finishing with a 3 minute jog.

My Sports Tracker app tells me it’s my 2nd fastest run on this route, not sure if that’s good news – Should I not be getting faster and not slower lol

Next week I will do better ๐Ÿ™‚

Well it was gonna happen sooner or later

At work today I bumped into a couple of colleagues, as I passed them one of them called outย “you’ve lost weight” I smiled and replied “Thank you”.ย 

“oh it’s not a complement, you look ill” he replied.

This made his friend laugh.

I just nodded and carried on my business.

I have lost weight, over 2 stone in fact but this is since May and it has been down to hard work with my running and eating better. I am now a healthy weight.

I don’t blame him, he is actually usually a nice guy but it seems in our nature to be negative, I have been guilty of this in the past but it’s not until it’s done to you that you realise how stupid that attitude can be.

5 Mile easy run

Today was a 5 mile easy run.

Todays run was great, It was a little chilly to start but I soon warmed up.

Listening to my music I ran 5 miles in 46.11 minutes with a 9:13 average pace.

I so hope the weather stays this nice for as long as possible because you just can’t help but smile as you run in nice weather ๐Ÿ™‚

I got an email from the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, They are going to send me a running vest for my Marathon which is fantastic.



New trainers

Just completed my 30 minute easy run (2.92 miles), It was hard at first to pace myself as I wanted to push myself harder but after the first mile I really enjoyed the slow jog, loosing myself in thought.

The sun came out to play – So nice to have a bit of sunny weather to run in.

I need to test out and start breaking in my new trainers, After reading reviews and blogs on previous runners of the Portsmouth Marathon it was suggested getting Trail trainers due to mud and slippery ground (Being December) so I bought some Karrimor Sabre Trail trainers, they claim to be waterproof and breathable and at ยฃ42.00 its hard to go wrong. I only ran on the pavement today but the trainers were comfortable.

I am looking forward to tomorrows 5 mile run, Lets hope the weather is as good ๐Ÿ™‚



Catchup, marathon and more โ˜บ

Wow, I cannot believe it’s been 3 months since I posted anything, don’t time fly!

Lots have happened since April, I got rid of the Nike watch and changed to a Garmin, absolutely fantastic, even though the watch was not the most expensive it is by far a better watch for me.

When getting back of my holiday in April i finally bought myself a set of scales and to my horror i had gained over 2 stone in a year, no wonder my jeans did not fit me on holiday๐Ÿ˜ฃ

I am happy to say my weight as almost back to normal now, it took a lot of hard work but it was worth it!

I have kept up with the running and I am hooked.

I have even managed to get myself a place on the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon on December 23rd, I am so looking forward to this, The course looks fantastic, mostly flat and the views are supposed to be great.

I would love a sub 4 hour marathon but realistically it will probably be 4:20 or close, we will have to see, I ran a half marathon last Sunday and even though I was not pushing myself i was disappointed with the time (2:07), hopefully the next one will be better. I did run a 10k yesterday in 51 minutes so pleased with that.

What a beautiful day


What a fantastic day for jogging, The sun is out but with a lovely breeze that kept me cool during my jog, If only every day was this nice ๐Ÿ™‚

I completed 2 miles in 20 minutes which is fantastic for me, I used my watch again as still having issues with the phone app, Maybe I should read the instructions???

My daughters and wife did not want to come jogging with me but when I finished my jog and offered them a cuddle they all ran lol


Nike failed me


I had great run today, had to wear my poncho as it was spitting with rain,

10 minute Recovery run so on with my headphones, start the app and off I jog.

Apart from the music I never heard a peep from the Nike coach, Not a problem at first but after jogging for ages and still not hearing anything I guessed something was not right.

I got out my phone check and then nike coach said “You have reached the halfway point”, ย followed by “Congratulations you have done your first 10 minute run”.

I have no idea why it did not let me know this earlier as the written display says I have been jogging for 15 minutes, I finish off with a cool down walk.

I felt great back home until I logged onto my Nike+ site to check my actual run times – You guessed it – all gone, It did not record the run at all ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So in conclusion I lightly jogged about a mile and a half in 15 minutes or so, had a fantastic jog even though my leg muscles were a little tender from Mondays run.

The joke of it was on Monday I used my Nike watch and phone app together and both runs got recorded so today I left the watch at home and the app fails to record my run.

Lets hope tomorrows 20 minute long run gets recorded ๐Ÿ™‚
